Yes, you can now say that with joy. Thanks to IDEA 3G launched by IDEA Cellular - India’s third largest mobile operator.
Now, GET AN IDEA.
Idea Cellular has launched its 3G services in 4 zones currently :
- Madhya Pradesh
- Chhattisgarh
- Gujarat and
- Himachal Pradesh as of today.
They have also setup Experience Kiosks at selected My Idea stores, for customers who would like to test before they opt for 3G.
Idea has kick-started their 3G ad campaigns too. Take a look at this ad:
Idea’s 3G services will be available in 200 towns by this April and progressively cover 750 towns by mid 2011. Idea plans to cover 4,000 towns by the end of March 2012.
Idea wants to offer 3G services in rural, Industrial and centers of learning where broadband services are not yet available.

Idea 3G data plans
Idea has given 35 different plans for its users to experience, namely – Sachet Based, Usage Based, Time Based with additional Data Rate Cutter and Dongles
Sachet Based Plan
Sachet based plan enables every Idea customer to get a taste of 3G. It varies for different regions with a minute change in the range of Rs.8 to Rs.55 with a free usage of 10 and 50 MB along with 1 and 3 days of validity respectively.
Usage Based Plan
Idea has usage plans to match the usage needs which ranges from a minimum of Rs. 97 to a maximum of Rs. 1745. Even this has minor changes in tariff depending on different regions.
Prepaid
Postpaid
Time Based
If you are someone who makes best use of time. Then this is for you. Ideal for Downloads/Uploads.
This has a range starting from Rs.44 to maximum of Rs.155. Again there are minor changes in the tariff rates depending on different regions.
Data Rate Cutter
For heavy users, Idea has a Data Rate Cutter facility that will reduce your overage charges to 1p/10KB.
This card carries a price tag of Rs. 55 and is valid for 30 days and is applicable to both Prepaid and Postpaid.
Dongle Tariff
Don’t have a 3G enabled phone, but still want to surf internet on your Laptop or on your Computer? Then get hold of Idea 3G dongle with exciting plans..
If you are hearing about a dongle for the first time, then let me tell you that a Dongle is a portable device that attaches to a USB port to enable a PC to connect to WiMAX and or 3G networks while on-the-go.
This again has price variation depending on different regions.

How to Activate Idea 3G?
For all those who are idea customers of Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh all you need to do is to just send a simple sms as “ACT3G” to 12345 (toll free) or alternatively you can also dial *147# (toll free USSD Method) after which your current 2G plan will be stopped and you will be migrating automatically to 3G “Pay as you Go Plan” with charges as 10p/10kb.
When will my circle get the Idea 3G ?
They have planned to launch their 3G services on their other circles gradually such as Maharashtra & Goa, Kerala, Haryana, UP East, UP West, AP, J&K and Punjab where they have acquired 3G licenses.
They are also in talks with other operators to launch their 3G services in other circles too.

Good to see that Idea is also offering the 3G services, but the plans looks to be very extensive. 10P/10KB will be too costly for users.

I asked for 3G service from IDEA CELLULAR on my Samsung Galaxy S. But I do not see appreciable difference in speeds. Also is there a way to know if network at any time is 3G or less ? I see the symbol H displayed at screen top.
At first call up to their customer care and enquire them Suresh. Ask them the speed you should get wit 3G. Then, check your download speed here http://speedtest.net/

i have a problemwith the idea 3g prepaid connection its very slow so just tell what i suppose to do please………….

I have Purchased one Iball slide i6012 on 12.08.2012 along with IDEA 3G dongle
to my utter surprise within 5 KM there is no IDEA 3G NETWORK at all. When the
DEMO done at Vijay Sales,Dombivili (E) Network tower was full and opened the
Face book.
I regret to point out that why there is no NETWORK in DOMBIVILI (WEST) Near
Ganesh Nagar locality. Is there any possibility to keep any BOOSTER to avail the
minimum bear signal to check the mails thu’ 3G NETSETTER?. My NEW 3G NETSETTER dongle
will go waste?
Please look into this matter and try to provide wherever possible the IDEA 3G net work
Near “RAMCHANDRA COMPLEX ” locality. Kindly note that the there is absolutely no network atll
such a reputed IDEA 3G service provider.

Hey Rajeev,
There are a few devices to increase the signal strength, but I am not sure will they help or not.
A better solution is to call up IDEA customer care and lodge a complaint regarding their bad network in your area. They might look into your issue and may also put up a tower in your area. Just be optimistic.
