Software Applications that Crash your Google Chrome browser

Whoa! Google Chrome has crashed. Restart now?

And you just restart quietly thinking of what may be the reason for this crash. It will work for few more minutes and crash again. And you say “Oh! God not again”. Well, don’t worry! No need to change your browser from Chrome to Firefox now. I will let you know that mystery causing your Google Chrome to crash.

Primary Reason>>

The primary reason behind the crash is incompatibilities with other software applications running on your computer.

Here is a list of software applications that are known to crash the Google Chrome. If you have any of the following programs, you may try temporarily disable the program to see if it resolves the crashes.

  • SpeedBit Video Accelerator
  • NVIDIA Network Access Manager
  • NVIDIA nTune
  • Venturi Firewall
  • PPLive
  • Venturi Firewall

Secondary Reasons>>

1>>Do you have Internet Download Manager installed?

If you have Internet Download Manager installed, disable the “Advanced browser integration” option by going to Options > General.

2>>Check whether you need a new browser user profile.

If you see this error message repeatedly, your browser user profile may be corrupted. First try moving the Default subfolder from your User Data folder to see if that fixes the problem:

  1. Go to Start menu > Run.
  2. Enter one of the following directories in the text field, depending on your operating system:
  3. Windows XP: %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\
  4. Windows Vista: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data\
  5. Click OK.
  6. In the window that opens, rename the “Default” folder as “Backup.”
  7. Move the ‘Backup’ folder from the “User Data” folder up one level to the “Chrome” folder.

If you continue to see the error, try creating a new user profile to replace your current one.

3>>Check for problems with protected system files.

  1. Go to Start menu > Run.
  2. Enter the following: SFC.EXE /SCANNOW (make sure there is a space between SFC.EXE and /SCANNOW). This initiates the Microsoft utility that will scan and repair problems with protected system files on your computer.

Try opening Google Chrome and see whether the error message still appears.

Other Reasons>>

Some plug-ins (also called add-ons within Internet Explorer) work incorrectly and may crash when Google Chrome Frame is installed. When this happens, you see the message “Internet Explorer has encountered a problem with an add-on and needs to close.” To fix the issue, disable or update the plug-in by going to Tools > Manage Add-ons in Internet Explorer.

These following plug-ins need to be disabled:

  • SweetIM Toolbar
  • Banco do Brasil Gbieh
  • GT-Buster Browser Defense
  • My Play City Toolbar

The following plug-in needs to be updated:

  • Askbar

3 Comments to Software Applications that Crash your Google Chrome browser

  1. Sometimes improper browser settings may result in chrome crashing issue… i fixed the problem by disabling sandbox and now chrome works smoothly..!

  2. I was getting the error message that a plug in had crashed: Norton Confidential on Chrome. I could not rename the default folder but, I did #3 and chrome seems to be working better. I have been getting messages in IE as well like you mentioned and I will try your last suggestion for that. Thanks, it was very frustrating. I emailed Norton days ago thinking it was a Norton issue or that they could at least advise me since I PAY for their service but, they have yet to respond! Thank you for kindly sharing your knowledge!
