3 simple steps to secure your Facebook account

Facebook is one of the most popular Social Networking site that is used extensively. It recently overtook Yahoo to reach top spots. It seems that almost everyone who uses internet has an account with this service. No wonder the number of attacks that happen on these accounts is also increasing. Thus, its important to enhance the security of your Facebook account.

Now all that’s going through your mind is that question – how to get it done! Well its pretty simple.

You have to follow these 3 simple steps:

  1. Add and confirm a second email address
  2. Confirm a mobile number
  3. Answer a security question

Now lets get a bit more descriptive about these three steps.

Step 1 >> Secondary E-mail

In the step 1, all you need to do is to add a secondary email address. Secondary email address just means any other email address other than the one you have been using on your Facebook. Well if you ask me why you need to add an extra email address? The answer is straight. If you have only one email address associated with your account, losing access to your email could mean losing access to your Facebook. Adding a secondary email address ensures that you can still access your account, even if you lose access to your primary email address on the account.

Your contact email must be a valid one. Once you have entered the email address, facebook will send you a verification code. You can have multiple email addresses on your account, making it easier for people to find you.

Step2>> Your Phone Number

In the second step you need to enter your mobile phone number and signup with Facebook Mobile service. This ensures that you can login to your account back in case you get issues with it. To do this, just click on
Mobile Phone >
+ Sign up for Facebook mobile

You will be asked to select the country and the network carrier. After which  you would get a confirmation code on your mobile. If that does not work you will have to send a Text message with the letter F to this number – 9232232665 (92FACEBOOK).

Step 3>> A Security Question

The final step would be adding a security question and an answer to it. You will be shown with a list of different questions out of which you need to select one and then proceed with the save and continue option to set it.

Onceyou are done with all these simple steps, your account is secured and you can now enjoy all the facebook features without worries.

Then, don’t forget to share this article with your Facebook friends and help them stay secured.

A friend told me that giving your phone number on FB in anyway will let strangers get the number, is that really true??

    • Not really. It is necessary to give your phone number if you want double security to your profile but make sure that none of your details are visible to public. And never accept friends whom you don’t know. 🙂
